Volunteer screening is a topic that every youth sports organization must address. The National Alliance for Youth Sports realizes the importance of including background checks as one part of the overall youth sports volunteer screening process. In 2006, NAYS composed a document that outlines the screening process, and provides general guidelines as well as disqualifiers as they pertain to youth sports volunteer background checks.
Please be adviced these are guidelines and not standards. Each organization must develop their own standards for performing background checks.

NAYS Screening Partnership
New Background Screening Partnership announced to help keep kids safe
In 2008, NAYS established a collaborative initiative with Priority Research, one of the industry's leading innovators of background screening solutions. This program was created to provide our members and other youth sports organizations with an essential service. Since a uniform system does not exist, background checks should be conducted to meet your organizations screening policies. Priority Research has developed minimum recommendations depending upon your state to assist your organization in creating your policy.
Not all Background Screening Companies are alike. Priority Research offers:
- SSN Verification & Address History.
- National Criminal & OFAC Search.
- County and Statewide Criminal Searches.
- True 50 state Sex Offender Search.
- Re-verification of any records found on the National Database at no additional cost.
- Be aware that not all states report evenly to the National Database. Priority Research has determined the minimum package required for your state.
