Youth soccer coach from N.J. indicted on child-endangering charges

A youth soccer coach has been indicted on four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, alleging that he sent sexually explicit text messages and showed children nude pictures of women that were on his cell phone.

The 38-year-old Piscataway resident coached youth soccer, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor.

He also is believed to have previously worked for the Bridgewater-Raritan Board of Education, the Warren Township Board of Education and the Piscataway Board of Education, Forrest said.

The indictment was handed up by a Somerset County Grand Jury.

On Feb. 16, a 13-year-old Watchung boy reported to the Watchung Police Department that the coach had sent sexually explicit text messages to his cell phone, Forrest said. On Feb. 17, a 13-year-old Warren boy told Warren police that the coach showed him photographs of nude adult women on his cell phone on two previous occasions within the previous five months, according to an affidavit filed in Superior Court.

Video recovered from the coach’s residence during a search depicted him showing material from his cell phone to a 14-year-old Warren girl, Forrest said.

According to the affidavit, the coach admitted to authorities, after being given his Miranda rights, that he sent the text messages and showed the photos to a minor.
