Kansas Recreation & Park Association celebrates 75 years!

2/13/2023

Dedicated recreation professionals throughout Kansas recently gathered in Overland Park for the annual Kansas Recreation & Park Association state conference, which also marked KRPA’s 75th anniversary as an industry leader.

The three-day event featured a powerful line-up of speakers and sessions, and the National Alliance for Youth Sports was honored to be there to help celebrate the milestone while providing some valuable training for attendees.

“We’re so proud of our long-standing relationship with KRPA and being a part of the great work they have been doing all these years,” said John Engh, executive director of NAYS. “Seventy-five years is an amazing achievement and we applaud the impact they have had in helping ensure safe and high quality youth sports programming throughout their state.”

Lisa Licata, Senior Director of Professional Administrators for NAYS, presented a pair of sessions at the conference: Emergency Preparedness; and Ensuring Accountability and Compliance in Youth Sports.

She also hosted the NAYS Frontline Staff Training, provided through KRPA’s Customer Service Institute, that more than 40 attendees took part in. The Frontline Staff Training is designed for any recreation staff member, including full-time, part-time, summer, seasonal, or new hires.

“Frontline Youth Sports Staff are in direct contact with the public and therefore are an extension of the organization’s leadership,” Licata said.

The training has been embraced around the country, including in Arizona, North Carolina, Maryland, and Florida.

It includes an introduction to youth sports administration, navigating interactions with youth sports parents and participants, promoting sportsmanship, being well-versed in a variety of safety issues, and being aware of what resources are available to help ensure high-quality sports experiences for all involved, among other areas.

Licata also conducted an Academy for Youth Sports Administrators Prep Session, in which 13 new Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA) candidates are now poised to complete the Online Academy, earn their CYSA certification, and join more than 6,600 others worldwide who have achieved that designation.
