NAYS welcomes new Member Organizations

5/16/2022

The National Alliance for Youth Sports is pleased to welcome nearly a dozen outstanding groups that have become our newest Member Organizations, joining more than 2,500 others nationwide who are committed to providing the best and safest experiences for youth in their communities.

“As the City of Whitehall Parks and Recreation enters the world of youth sports, we are dedicated to adhering to best practices and ensuring the safety of our participants,” said Shannon Sorrell, Director of Parks & Recreation at the City of Whitehall in Ohio. “The screening and training process offered by NAYS helps us to ensure that volunteers are passing national background checks and provides streamlined training for all adults involved in the program.”

Adds Megan Masucci, a Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA) and Recreation Manager-Athletics for Thompson Rivers Parks and Recreation in Colorado: “Thompson Rivers Parks and Rec District, like most other organizations, thrive on volunteers to help coach our sports and without them we would not be able to do what we do. We value learning in recreational sports and implementing the NAYS coach training will set a higher standard for our volunteers. It will set the expectation to have quality volunteers who feel they have received all the tools to be successful and teach each sport to the best of their abilities without feeling unprepared.”

TOP TRAINING AND RESOURCES

The acclaimed NAYS Coach Training program is available online as well as on-site. The training features insights from some of the most respected coaches around the country, including Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, Rutgers’ Vivian Stringer, Los Angeles Angels manager Joe Maddon, Tulane women’s basketball coach Lisa Stockton, Kansas City Royals manager Mike Matheny, and many more.

“We decided to use NAYS coach training because we feel NAYS is an invaluable tool for our volunteers and coaches,” said Cheryl Martin, a Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA) and Recreation Manager at North Kansas City Parks and Recreation in Missouri. “They learn to handle a variety of situations that can occur on the field and utilize resources to be the best coach they can be. NAYS also helps us streamline training and background checks.”

NAYS Member Organizations have access to a wide range of tools and resources to improve their youth sports programs: trainings for coaches, parents, league directors and officials; coach evaluations through NAYS’ unique Coach Rating System; and volunteer accountability by adherence to the NAYS Code of Ethics.

“Dilley Baseball & Softball Club's mission is to provide a youth league that provides a high level of play with active volunteers that will be held to a higher standard,” said Jack Proctor, Board Director, Dilley Baseball and Softball Club in Texas. “NAYS will help us reach this level by providing needed training and educational awareness. Our kids deserve the best and we anticipate our relationship with NAYS will help us reach this goal.”

NAYS Member Organizations also have a terrific line-up of FREE online programs to take advantage of to enhance their knowledge in a variety of areas impacting youth sports, including Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training, Protecting Against Abuse Training, Bullying Prevention Training, and more.
